Lonaard Magazine is a specialised peer-reviewed art and architecture periodical founded
in London by Dr Waleed Al Sayed and Dr Mashary Al Naim since 2008

Yasser Elsheshtawy is Associate Professor of Architecture at the United Arab Emirates University, Department of Architectural Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Masters degree in Architecture from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Cairo University. His research has focused on socio-cultural sustainability, environment-behavior studies, architectural theory and changing urban patterns in Middle Eastern cities particularly the cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Cairo. He has published extensively in renowned journals in the field such as The International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, New Geographies, Architectural Theory Review and The Brown Journal of World Affairs. In addition he also authored and edited a series of books which include “Dubai: Behind an Urban Spectacle” (2010), “The evolving Arab city” (2008), and “Planning Middle Eastern Cities” (2004, 2009) – all published by Routledge/London. He has been invited to present his work at numerous international institutions such as Harvard Design School, Tongji University/Shanghai, the ETH/Zurich, the International Architectural Biennale/Rotterdam, the Center for Oriental Studies/Berlin and most recently the Louvre Auditorium/Paris. He was also involved as a consultant with organizations such as the United Nation’s Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia (UN-ESCWA); the Urban Land Institute (ULI) in Washington, DC., and Shigeru Ban Architects (Tokyo) where he collaborated in the competition for the Sheikh Zayed museum at Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi and most recently the Sheikh Zayed Memorial Competition. He serves on numerous editorial boards, acts as a reviewer for international journals and conferences, and is a columnist for AlRoyya Al’Iqtassidiyya an Arabic daily newspaper specializing in financial affairs. |
